My Life Journey…. Ranchelele Phillip Mpako
On the 13th May 1954, my late mother Mmaletswai Magdelene Mpako heard my first cry and got to welcome her 3rd born son into this world with the late Steve Mpako in Mathibestad and they named me Ranchelele Phillip Mpako. They created a home full of love being surrounded by six siblings who called me Lucky and are the base of my childhood memories.
I followed in my late two elder brothers footsteps and started my primary schooling at Lepono Primary School then moved to Bahwaduba Middle School. As I entered into my teenage life my high schooling was spent at Sekitla High School and tertiary at Ithuteng Commercial School where I discovered my love for numbers.
My career journey started at North West Star (Pty) Ltd formerly known as Bophuthatswana Transport Investments in 1975. I spent 44 years of my life moving through the different depots entity in their accounting departments. I started out as an accounts clerk at Atamelang Depot, thereafter I held different positions as an assistant accountant at Duratech, Duracare and Durabuild Manufacturing Depot, Cost Accountant at Batswana Gare Transport Depot and finally moved to the North West Transport Investment (Pty) Ltd head Office as a O&M Officer until I retired in 2019.
I met the love of my life Keneilwe Johannah Maine during my tertiary schooling at Ithuteng Commercial School and got married in 1979. We were blessed with three beautiful kids; our daughter Lerato, and two sons Tebogo and Ofentse. We were planning a long life together but God had other plans. We bid farewell to my beautiful wife in 1992 and by Gods grace, I continued on the journey of raising our beautiful kids with assistance from family. I know she is proud of the work I have done and of the adults they are today.
My continuous journey with God and the church grew stronger in my adult life and I became a member of the Anglican Men’s Guild at St Barnabas in the Diocese of Pretoria and of the Badisa Mens Forum affiliates of Gauteng Christian Men’s Forum. I also was a treasurer of Setlhare Social Club in the St Barnabas Mabopane Parish.
As our journey on this earth is not guaranteed and the timing of our departure is only known by the Almighty, my time came to lay my head upon my Savior’s breast on the 22nd June 2021 after a short illness.
I’m survived by my beautiful children Lerato, Tebogo and Ofentse; brothers Levy and Sello; sisters Moipone, Josephine and Rinny; my adoring grandchildren Zawadi, Kgosi, Leruo and 16 other grandchildren; 6 nephews and 7 nieces.

We, as the family, are concerned about the rapid increase of Covid-19 cases in Gauteng currently. In response to this worrying situation we have decided to be responsible citizens by avoiding our funeral to be a super-spreader event, therefore the following will apply:
1. The funeral service will only be for family members as per the list. This is to ensure that we keep to minimum numbers as per COVID-19 regulations.
2. The family requests that After Tears to not be held.
This is the new norm and we should always be mindful of sparing lives in an effort to contribute towards the fight against the pandemic.
Lastly, the family would like to sincerely thank everyone for their well wishes during these difficult times.

Posted at 16:38h, 28 JuneOn Father’s Day I did say that I would share some inspiration from Fathers on how to do this thing that many think is rocket science, yet so natural for many. As it is still June (Father’s Month), here goes.
One man I need to write about is a good friend and sister’s Dad. Her Dad is what many should aspire to. On losing their mother in 1992, this Father kept the home fires burning and continued raising his three children, Lerato, Tebogo and Ofentse right until he took his last breath. If you have ever come across them, you will know that he has been their nurturer, role model, and inspiration to them and many of us.
Yesterday was a bittersweet moment as we watched his three precious ones bid their final goodbyes to him. In my mind, there are a few invincible people, and Pa wa Lerato is one of them. I have seen her glow and grow just because of her Dad.
I have seen her share with us who her Dad raised her to be. Lerato, Lala to most of us was definitely named who she is now. Lala is all about relations and building strong and deep relations with all who come across her. Like her Father, she is the pillar of strength for everyone. So wonderful is she that I know that she would not harm a fly. This is a trait that she definitely gets from her Dad.
I must say that when each one of us chooses our lifetime partner, we should ensure that they are along the lines that the Fathers in our inner circle were – we have been given the blueprint.
Lerato’s Dad is a man that many can emulate as we listened to speaker after speaker mention how remarkable he was. Now we know that all those years that he spent with his children, our friends, our family, was to pass on the greatness of who he was.
“Greatness lies not in ruling a people, it lies in being the cause of happiness in their lives.” ― Abhijit Naskar.
I would like to believe that Lerato, Tebogo, and Ofentse, who have all become family to us, have experienced nothing but happiness – we witnessed this in the Mpako family.
What I know is that the longing does not go away, you only find ways to get on with life with that longing. I pray that God grants the Mpako’s and Maine’s solace during this time.
To Lerato, Tebogo and Ofentse, your Dad is definitely the hero that you experienced when you were knee-high right until your adulthood. And most heroes, do not wear capes.
May Pa rest in eternal glory.
