Matlhodi Dorothy Mabote was born on the 24th of March 1971 in Moletsane, Soweto. She was the 8th child of 9 children of the late Benjamin and Doreen Mabote. Matlhodi began her primary schooling education at Lerechabetse Primary School. In her transition to high school, she went on to further her higher schooling education at Mafori Mphahlele High School. Known for her zealous entrepreneurial spirit, Matlhodi went on to start a successful food supply business, in conjunction to working at Hyde Printers from 1998 – 2005.
Her devout Christian Faith kept her grounded and rooted in Christ, which she took after her late mother. Always caring, kind and welcoming to those around her, she was known as a mother figure to all her children from all walks of life. Her infectious laugh and personality, which captivated many of those around her, coupled with the wisdom she carried from her vast life experiences, made her someone relatable, with an ever understanding persona.
Matlhodi was blessed with three beautiful children, namely Kefilwe, Lesego and Ntando and two grandsons, Junior and Kanye. She was also married to Mr Kholise Stuurman. A devouted mother and grandmother, Matlhodi led her household in an exemplary fashion and was the pillar of support and anchor of her family. She always put herself last, sacrificing her own needs for the betterment of the family. Matlhodi met her untimely death on the 30th of December 2020 at home following a short illness, in the loving comfort of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her three children, two grandchildren, six sisters, one brother and many nieces, nephews and extended family at large.
Matlhodi will be solely missed by her family and friends. Her contagious and warm aura, energy and personality often brought a sense of warmth and love in the lives of those she touched and loved. Exceptionally supportive and understanding, she often pushed everyone to pursue and reach their wildest dreams. Rest in eternal peace for now you are seated amongst those in the Kingdom of God.
